WSOP 2007: Barry Greenstein

Ups and Downs of the Series

We spoke with Barry Greenstein just before the main event.

Card Player: How did the Series go this year?

Barry Greenstein: Disappointing. I've had a lot of chances, twice I had 20 percent of the chips, first in seven-card stud and I came in fourth. Then in the H.O.R.S.E., I was in good shape; tied for the chip lead with nine players left and then lost four hands on the river, real big pots, or I would have been the monster chip leader going to the final table. Both those events I felt I was in good position to win.

I have only cashed about four times, which is pretty low because I have played over 20 events. I would normally expect to cash about 30 percent of the time.

CP: You have been playing a lot of events, that was the plan coming in?

BG: I actually didn't play as many as I expected. I went home for a couple of days and since I lasted all five days of the H.O.R.S.E., I didn't play any other events those days. So I have played less than half the events. I expected to play more. Also the last couple of days I have been playing in side games late,. For instance, I played until 8 in the morning last night. So for me it's always more tiring than the people who are just playing tournaments because I am also playing in the side games. If it was just the tournaments, then it wouldn't be too taxing.

CP: What has been the best thing Harrah's has done this year and what do you want them to fix for next year?

BG: We have a lot of small fixes we would like to see but I think the schedule has been exceptionally good. Especially compared to previous years where a lot of us felt it was too hold'em-heavy. So this to me has a really good feel of a real World Series of Poker. I think there was something for everyone as far as poker is concerned. So I am really happy with that.

[Barry made day 2 of the main event but not day 3.]
