A professional hockey player is being sued by a Las Vegas casino over gambling debts.

The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas is suing San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane for $500,000, according to a report from the Las Vegas Review Journal. The Strip casino says that the 28-year-old veteran of the NHL took out eight markers between $20,000 and $100,000 around April 15.

The Sharks were in Las Vegas around that date for games 3 and 4 of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. April 15 was the off-day in between games. The Golden Knights won both of those games but ended up losing the series in seven games.

The casino filed the lawsuit was filed in a Clark County District Court earlier this week. The lawsuit is also seeking repayment of legal fees.

In 2018, Kane signed a seven-year deal worth $49 million. He is set to make $8 million this season. Through his first 11 seasons in the league, Kane has already earned approximately $49 million. When his current contract expires at the end of the 2024-’25 season, he will have earned more than $81 million.

Over the course of the year, the Cosmopolitan has been at the forefront of several celebrity controversies. In May, rapper Meek Mill was denied entry into the property and called the casino “racist as hell.”

In September, a lawsuit was filed against Kevin Hart over a sex tape filmed in one of the casino’s hotel rooms. There were rumors circulating earlier this year that the casino’s owners are considering selling the property for a huge profit.
