A Florida man lost $3,500 over two poker sessions and then killed the winner of the money a few days later, according to authorities.

Police were investigating the death of a man found in a burned car at a state park about 45 minutes northwest of Tampa. Their investigation led to the arrest of Michael Psilakis, 21, on weapons charges on Nov. 2. A few days later, he was charged with the murder of the victim in the car.

According to a report from the Tampa Bay Times, the arrest report stated that the victim was last seen with Psilakis on Oct. 30. Deputies noticed blood seeping through his socks, which ended up revealing a burn blister on his shin.

Later, police spoke to a witness who said that he played poker with Psilakis and the victim on Oct. 29. The victim beat Psilakis for $1,000. The following day, Psilakis played another session the next day with the victim and the victim beat Psilakis out of another $2,500. Psilakis texted the witness and said that he was thinking about killing the victim.

Police interviewed Psilakis’ mother, who said that she had found blood smeared in her garage. Psilakis called his mother during the interview and a deputy recorded the call. Psilakis told his mother that he burned his legs when gas he threw on a car blew back on him.

Psilakis drove back to the house where police were waiting for him. Upon searching his vehicle, cops found a handgun, which led to the first arrest. Then they searched his cell phone and found a search history that included the phrase “can u shoot through a seat.”

Law Enforcement was able to match a shell casing at the scene of the crime to the handgun in Psilakis’ car, leading to the murder charge.
