The mayor of Atlantic City is sick of looking at President Donald Trump’s former New Jersey casino.

Mayor Marty Small gave his first unofficial State of the City address last Thursday and told attendees that demolishing the now vacant Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino is one of his focuses for 2020, according to a report from the Press of Atlantic City.

Billionaire Carl Icahn, who was the driving force behind the Caesars-Eldorado merger, currently owns the abandoned building. The casino, which still bears Trump’s name, closed in September 2014 and was one of four properties to go out of business in Atlantic City that year.

Icahn bought Trump Entertainment Resorts in 2016 while it was in bankruptcy. Trump previously owned several casinos in the city, but the former Trump Marina is now the Golden Nugget and the Trump Taj Mahal is now Hard Rock Atlantic City.

In 2017, there were reports that Icahn was going to completely demolish the building but never obtained a demolition permit. According to NJ.com, the billionaire failed to secure funding assistance from the state for the demolition.

“My administration’s goal is to tear Trump Plaza down,” said Small. “That’s not accepted in any other city but Atlantic City. It’s an embarrassment, it’s a blight on our skyline, and that’s the biggest eyesore in town.”

Icahn has not commented on the current demolition proposals.
