The 2020 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Jeju has been officially postponed due to health concerns stemming from the Coronavirus epidemic. The high-stakes tournament festival was scheduled to run from Feb. 10 – 22 at South Korea’s Jeju Landing Casino, but is now on hold indefinitely.
Triton Poker made the announcement over the weekend following the World Health Organization’s declaration that the Coronavirus epidemic now qualifies as an international public health emergency. As of Monday, Feb. 3 Chinese health officials are claiming more than 17,000 confirmed cases, with more than 360 deaths resulting from the virus to date.
China has been the country most impacted by the Coronavirus epidemic so far, but dozens of other countries have reported confirmed cases. Given the health concerns, Triton Poker organizers have opted to postpone the third annual running of their poker series in South Korea.
“The safety of our players and support staff remains our utmost priority. Coupled with our duty to do everything we can in our power to prevent the virus from spreading, we’ve taken the difficult but correct stop of postponing the event with immediate effect,” the tour said via press release. “The thoughts and prayers of the Triton Poker Team are with the families of those that have lost their lives and for the ones fighting the virus all over the world.”
The press release indicated that further information regarding the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Jeju and its possible rescheduling will be released on Feb. 10. The 2019 running of this event played host to a number of massive high stakes poker tournaments, awarding more than $40 million USD in prize money along the way.
More information about avoiding contracting the virus can be found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.
