A plethora of poker tournament series have been postponed and canceled in recent days as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. The World Series of Poker Circuit is one of many of the major tours to have made announcements regarding such moves this week, but before the WSOPC could release information regarding some of their upcoming stops, 2018 World Poker Tour Rolling Thunder runner-up Ian Steinman took to Twitter with an idea for the tour.

BallysVegas @BLVPOKER can we change this upcoming circuit stop to an online one? Seems like a good play— Ian Steinman (@IanSteinman) March 12, 2020
Ultimately, the WSOP did make a move similar to Steinman’s suggestion. On Friday, March 13 the WSOP announced that a new online WSOP Circuit series would be held: the WSOP.com Online Super Circuit Series. The festival would be available to any player with a WSOP.com account inside the physical limits of New Jersey, Nevada or Delaware at the time of play, and would feature 18 WSOPC gold ring events and more than $1,000,000 in guaranteed prize money.
The series is slated to kick off on Saturday, Mar. 14 with a $50,000 guaranteed $320 buy-in no-limit hold’em event that will begin at 4:00 p.m. PST. The centerpiece of the schedule is the $200,000 guaranteed no-limit hold’em main event. The $525 buy-in event gets underway at 2:00 p.m. PST on Mar. 29. The quick move to make this online event available drew praise from poker pros like Jamie Kerstetter, who tweeted:
Wow is this gonna happen @WSOPcom ?
Pretty fast adaptation to what players asked for https://t.co/9VCavA9PwZ— Jamie Kerstetter (@JamieKerstetter) March 13, 2020
With the announcement of the new online circuit series, the WSOP also released an official statement that included information about their live tournament series that have been altered so far as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
