The
National Poker League announced on August 17 that it will host the first annual
NPL UK Open at the Loose Cannon Club in London. The tournament will feature five events that begin on August 12 and end with the final table of the main event on August 18, which is a ₤2,500 buy-in no-limit hold'em tournament.
"We are extremely pleased that the Loose Cannon Club has partnered with the
NPL to host our first international televised poker tournament in Europe," said Sam Riddle, President of
NPL's television division in an official press release. "We will be filming throughout the qualifying rounds and producing six one-hour episodes of the
UK Open," said Riddle.
The
NPL will produce 26 television episodes from the 2007 world circuit tour for international and U.S. broadcast. The
NPL 2007 world circuit tour will be televised on nearly every CBS-owned station nationwide. The shows will also run on Superstation WGN. According to Riddle, the
NPL series expects to reach over 100 million households via U.S. and global broadcast partners. Each of the 26 one-hour episodes will be filmed in high definition and will also feature player interviews and tips.
The
UK Open is the first of four events scheduled for the
NPL's first world circuit tour. The circuit will also feature the
French Open (TBD), the
Asia Open (Oct. 8-14), and will conclude with the
Vegas Open (Nov. 26=Dec. 2).
