Palm Beach Kennel Club is set to reopen on Friday, May 22 after more than two months of suspended operations due to the coronavirus outbreak. The 64-table poker room will open its doors at 9:00 a.m. local time on that date and will resume offering daily cash games. All other areas of the venue, which also hosts racing, table games and dining options, will open at 11:30 a.m.

The Paddock Restaurant is currently open daily open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. and for dinners on Friday and Saturday. Live racing is scheduled daily with post time at 1:00 p.m. and evening races take place Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Simulcast action will be offered daily, but services will be limited.

Guests will enter a ‘Mandatory Visitor Screening Zone’ upon arrival, where they will have their temperature checked and will be required to sign a waiver. PBKC will follow CDC guidelines and adhere to local government recommendations by operating at 50 percent capacity.

PBKC included the following information about safety precautions in their press release about the impending re-opening:

  • If sick, instructed to stay home
  • Non-contact temperatures will be taken of everyone at entrances
  • Face coverings required to enter the building
  • Hand sanitizer at entrances and throughout the building
  • Signage specified by CDC detailing how to protect yourself and others from COVID-19

  • Self-serve betting machines offer a contactless service option
  • Indicators on the floor to show six feet apart at betting window lines
  • Reduced number of betting windows available

  • Menus will be paper and disposable

New Poker Room procedures (these procedures may be amended):

  • Games will be played with a designated number of players to be determined by management
  • The waiting area will not be utilized. Players will be seated upon arrival and games will commence when the designated number of players is achieved
  • Players will not be granted table transfers. The table you are seated will be your table for the duration of the day
  • Players will be required to purchase their initial and buy ins at the cage
  • Dealers will not rotate from table to table. Dealers will be assigned to one table only
  • Chips will be isolated to a specific table. Once chips have been introduced to a game, they can only exit in the following manners: Drop Boxes, Dealer tip boxes, Cashed out at the cashier
  • Once chips are removed from play, they will not be recirculated until after they are sanitized
  • Paper cards will be utilized and discarded at regular intervals
  • Eating food at the tables will be prohibited

  • Hand sanitizer will be used in lieu of a dealer button. When a player has the sanitizer, they are encouraged to use it
  • Dealers will sanitize their hands after arriving at the table
  • All players will be required to sanitize their hands upon initially or subsequently arriving at the table

The release further noted that:

PBKC utilized the downtime to deep clean the entire facility and to establish the ‘PBKC Clean Team’, which will ensure the frequency of cleaning and sanitization of all public spaces with an emphasis on frequent contact surfaces including, but not limited to, door handles, handrails, betting machines, ATMs, counters, dining surfaces and seating areas, escalator, elevator and elevator buttons. PBKC uses cleaning products that meet CDC guidelines for use and are effective against viruses, bacteria and other airborne and bloodborne pathogens.
