This Year's PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship and EPT Barcelona Have Been Postponed To 2021The Second Running Of The Largest-Ever $25,000 Buy-In Event Won't Take Place In 2020 |

The first-ever PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC) was held in January of 2019. The no-limit hold’em high roller event that drew a total of 1,039 entries to blow away all previous records to become far-and-away the largest field ever in an event with a buy-in of $25,000 or higher. The second running of this huge event was scheduled to take place in August of 2020 at Casino Barcelona, but on Friday, May 22 PokerStars announced that the tournament, and the European Poker Tour Barcelona festival it was set to take place during, have both been postponed until 2021.
“We realize that this news will come as a disappointment to many, but we know you will understand and appreciate why this is necessary. Our priority is the safety and good health of all our players and staff, as well as the communities that host such large events,” said Managing Director at The Stars Group Séverin Rasset in the release. “While we cannot provide exact dates at this time, we do know that the PSPC will be back bigger and better in 2021 at Casino Barcelona. Until then, we will focus on creating a life changing and memorable PokerStars experience for when we are safe and together again.”
The PSPC was unique in many ways, but one particular feature that stood out was the ‘Platinum Pass’, valued at roughly $30,000, which were awarded to players for free in a variety of promotions by PokerStars. A Platinum Pass counts as a seat in the event as well as money for travel, accommodations, and spending. There were 320 Platinum Passes awarded to players for the previous iteration of this event, which added $8,000,000 into the $26,455,500 final prize pool for that event. In his release regarding the postponement, Rasset announced that 400 Platinum Passes will be awarded for the 2021 running of this event.
For now, all promotions awarding Platinum Passes have been suspended. New and updated promotions will be announced when finalized dates for the 2021 running have been confirmed. Players who were awarded a Platinum Pass for the planned 2020 running of this event will not be able to receive a refund, but their passes will remain valid for the event when it is run next year.
The statement by Rasset also announced the cancellation of the Road to PSPC Cannes, Road to PSPC Madrid Torrelodones, and Manilla Super Series 14 series.
The inaugural running of this event paid out seven figures to the top six finishers, with eventual champion Ramon Collilas earning $5,100,000 as the champion. The 30-year-old Spaniard won his Platinum Pass into the event by finishing first in the Campeonato de España de Poker leaderboard in 2018. He had just $11,054 in prior live tournament cashes to his name.
