A couple of Las Vegas Strip casino companies have changed their smoking policies to help contain the spread of COVID-19 while inside the casinos.

According to an Associated Press report, smoking and vaping is no longer permitted at casino table games inside the Venetian and Palazzo. This change was made about a month ago when the property mandated that guests wear masks at the tables.

Wynn Resorts Ltd. recently made similar changes at its two Strip properties.

For the time being, smoking is banned at any table game without plexiglass dividers present at Wynn or Encore. The restrictions at all four properties will likely be lifted when the virus becomes less of a threat to public health.

The move comes amid nationwide concerns of a second wave of COVID-19 cases. Nevada reported 849 new cases Wednesday and a USA Today report claims that at least 123 tourists tested positive for the virus after vacationing at Silver State casinos.

The report states that 16 visitors tested positive during the first week that Las Vegas casinos were open. Gov. Steve Sisolak allowed Nevada casinos to resume operations, with several social distancing restrictions, June 4.

The largest spike in positive cases came during the week of June 22 when 31 guests tested positive. According to the national newspaper, those guests were residents of California, Arizona, Florida, Texas, Utah, Colorado, Illinois, Tennessee, and Brazil.

With Nevada cases rising, Sisolak recently reinforced restrictions that forced bars to close. Even at restaurants that serve food, bar service is currently prohibited and indoor dining parties are limited to six.
