A total of 2,330 entries were made across the 11 events of bestbet Jacksonville’s recent Winter Open, resulting in $1,621,555 in prize money being awarded throughout the January poker festival. Hot on the heels of that resounding success, bestbet Jacksonville is set to host another tournament festival that runs from Mar. 18-28: the 2021 Spring Series.
“Before the Winter Open, the last tournament series we had hosted was in January of 2020, so we hadn’t run one in about a year. We did do a couple of one-day tournaments at the end of last year that had really big turnouts, and everybody seemed excited and ready to play. So, we put on the Winter Open, and we didn’t really know exactly what to expect as far as the numbers,” said bestbet Executive Director of Poker Operations Jesse Hollander. “There is definitely a lot of pent-up demand for tournament poker because there were tons of people that I’d never seen before, people from all over the country. And the turnout for every event was way more than normal during this time of the year. So, I do think that our Spring Series is going to be very big.”
The upcoming series is set to run from Mar. 18-28, with another 11 action-packed events on the schedule. Things will get underway with a $560 buy-in no-limit hold’em kickoff event that will run from Mar. 18-21, with three starting flights available to choose from. The kickoff event for the Winter Open, which featured the same buy-in and general structure, drew a total of 592 entries to create a prize pool of $296,000. The event concluded with a five-way chop that saw the remaining players all earn $30,460 for a payday of roughly 55 times their buy-in.

“We got a huge turnout, 592 players with three starting days, it was really amazing. So, we put that exact same opening event in the Spring Series and expect the same sort of outcome,” said Hollander.
While the entire schedule is full of exciting events with a variety of games, formats, and price points, the centerpiece of the whole affair will be the $2,500 buy-in Spring Series no-limit hold’em main event. The tournament offers two starting flights, each beginning at noon on Mar. 26 and 27. The survivors of those two days will reconvene on Mar. 28 to play down to a winner, with the action streamed on bestbetLIVE. The kickoff event and the $360 buy-in Ladies no-limit hold’em event will also be live-streamed.
The main event of the recent Winter Open featured a $2,000 buy-in, and with a strong turnout of 510 entries, the prize pool swelled to $918,000. Eventual champion Scott Stewart earned $177,817 for the win in the end, while Matt Mauldin secured $118,422 as the runner-up finisher.
“The main event drew a bigger turnout than we expected in the Winter Open. This around time we actually raised the buy-in a little bit to $2500, and we might get similar numbers at a slightly higher price point,” commented Hollander. “
This series’ main event will see players start with 25,000 in chips, with 40-minute levels and initial blinds of 100-100. There will be unlimited re-entries allowed during the registration period, which will remain open until the start of level 10.
Other highlights during the ten-day festival include a $460 buy-in pot-limit Omaha event on Mar. 20, a $1,200 buy-in six-max event on Mar. 25, and the series-ending bestbet 500, which will take place on Mar. 28.
“We’re bringing back the H.O.R.S.E. event for mixed games fans. The numbers were really good in every event in our most recent series, and I look for the numbers to be similar in this upcoming Spring Series. Also, the cash games were amazing during the Winter Open. The room was packed with cash games the entire week. There will be lots of stuff to do, between tournaments or satellites, and great cash games of all shapes and sizes,” said Hollander.
