A man robbed a casino on the Las Vegas Strip in the early hours of Tuesday morning, using a threatening note to force the cashier to hand over $10,000 in casino chips.
Ronald Allison, 51, entered the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas around 6:30 a.m. and headed to the cashier’s cage. He dropped a heavy duffle bag on the counter and passed a note to the teller. The note read “Give me 10k purple or Boom,” according to the local ABC affiliate.
The teller said that he heard a loud noise when the bag was placed on the counter. He believed that there was a firearm inside and that his life was in danger.
The casino employee handed over the money and pressed the panic button underneath the counter. Police arrived on the scene shortly after and used video surveillance footage to trace Allison to the nearby Waldorf Astoria, where he was arrested on suspicion of robbery with a deadly weapon and burglary with a firearm.
During the initial search, police found the money in Allison’s bag. Authorities have reported that he confessed to the crime once he was in custody.
Unfortunately, this isn’t a unique experience for Las Vegas casinos. In March 2019, the cage in the poker room of the Bellagio was robbed at gunpoint for an undisclosed amount of money. The robber was killed in a shootout with police as he was fleeing the scene. It ended up being the same person that successfully robbed the property’s poker room two years earlier.
