Poker in its many variations is a fascinating card game. Some may be content to play a game of poker with their friends at home from time to time without any significant stakes. Still others play regularly and even compete in larger tournaments for great material and cash prizes. But such tournaments are not necessarily frequent in one’s own place of residence and one must have a casino in one’s vicinity that offers such events at least on a fairly regular basis.

But if the regional offer is not enough for you and you still want to play poker regularly, you have the option of playing online poker. You can visit many of the increasingly popular poker websites with a fascinatingly large selection of different variations of the game of poker offered on the internet. The forms of the tournaments and the amount of the buy-ins are also extremely diverse.

Online Poker – These Games Are Offered

There is a whole range of poker variants offered on the respective platforms where you can play online poker. The best-known is certainly Texas Hold’em, where each player initially sees only two cards. Once everyone has looked at their cards, they have to announce whether they want to bet something, check, or whether they think their own hand is not worth a pot of money and would rather fold.

After this betting round, the dealer lays three cards face up in the middle of the table, the so-called flop. Now each player has to assess his cards in combination with the cards from the flop and bets are made again. This continues with another card that is turned over, the so-called turn. Again the bets are placed and finally the fifth and last card in the middle, the river, is turned over. Now one’s own hand is assessed once again, the bets are placed and finally the cards of all players who have not passed in the meantime are compared to determine the winner.

But this is only one variation of the world-famous poker game and even though some forms of the game are quite similar, they are all a little different. The rules of all known poker games can be read online very well. Other poker games are:

● Omaha Poker
● Omaha HiLo
● Stud Poker
● Draw Poker
● H.O.R.S.E Poker
● Razz Poker

Omaha Poker

This is actually also just a Hold’em variant. The difference is that in Omaha Poker the player receives four hole cards at the beginning instead of two. However, the actual course of the game is the same. While Texas Hold’em is often played without a limit, the opposite is the case with Omaha Poker.

As if that were not enough, there are even two variations of the variant. There is Omaha Hi and Omaha Hi-Lo. While in Omaha Hi the best hand is determined by normal scoring, in Omaha Hi-Lo the two best hands win. Just like in Texas Hold’em, your hand is made up of two of the four hole cards and the board.

Thus, each player has a number of more possibilities to form a good hand. But of course this also applies to the opponents! This variant of the poker game is really very varied and is very often offered on the serious online poker sites.

Five Card Draw

There are also several variants of this popular game of chance, but we will limit ourselves to the most important one. In Five Card Draw, each player first receives five cards, which are all dealt face down. The best possible hand is formed from these cards. In this poker variant, in contrast to Texas Hold’em, where there is a blind and a big bind as a bet by two players, an ante is paid by each of the participants as a fixed compulsory bet.

Now follows a betting round with call, raise or fold. Once all players have decided how they want to play, the first so-called draw takes place. Each player who is still in the game can decide whether he wants to exchange cards in a previously agreed maximum number or whether he wants to keep his hand cards. After the hands have been re-evaluated, another round of betting takes place. Whoever wins this round gets the pot. Most poker slots are also based on this poker variant.

Five Card Stud Poker

The five card stud poker is relatively easy to learn and was traditionally played in the “Wild West”. Each player is initially dealt one card face up and one card face down. The player who has been dealt the lowest face-up card must pay a “bring in”. The other players then place their bets. The special feature of this variant is that the players can see all the open cards of their fellow players. So in Five Stud Poker you have to try to make your opponents believe that you have a particularly good face-down card in your hand. The bets are also placed in this poker game via call, raise or fold.

Once the round is over, the players who did not pass receive another card face-up. Whoever has now received the highest card starts the next round of betting. More cards are dealt face-up until each player has four of them. Then a final bet takes place and finally there is the big showdown where everyone reveals their face-down card.

What Forms Of Play Are There For Texas Hold’em?

The different platforms offer various tournaments. You can play regular tournaments that are scheduled for a certain time and for which players can register until a certain time. Then there are the so-called Sit & Go’s, in which it is determined in advance how many players will participate. If there are a corresponding number of registrations, the game starts. Then there are also knockout tournaments, where you either receive a fixed amount for each player removed from the table or progressively increasing amounts.

Normally, there are tournaments for all kinds of buy-ins. Some of them even start with very small amounts but there are also exciting poker tournaments for real high-rollers.
If you are looking for a provider where you want to play the different poker variants, then you should definitely pay attention to the bonus offers. New players often receive a bonus to attract new customers. The amount can be quite different, but often the bonus amount is 100% of the deposit amount. With any kind of cash gift, however, you should pay attention to the requirements of the provider in the online casino. It is easy to find out how often a bonus amount must be wagered before any winnings can be paid out.
