The 2023 PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship attracted a staggering field of 1,014 entries, making it the second-largest $25,000 buy-in tournament in poker history. Only the 2019 running of this same event, which drew 1,039 entries, had a larger turnout.
The near-record field, which was just 25 entries from tying the previous high-water mark, resulted in a $24,843,000 prize pool. The top 175 finishers will make the money, with a min-cash of $35,100. The top 27 finishers will all earn six-figure paydays, while the top six will cash for at least a million dollars. The eventual champion is set to walk away with $4,053,200.
The event, which is taking place as part of the resurrected PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, is scheduled to run from Jan. 30 through Feb. 3 at the Baha Mar Resort & Casino in The Bahamas. This freezeout event allowed late registration through the start of the third level on day 2.
At the time the official prize pool info was released, more than 300 contenders still remained. This event featured competitors from 63 different countries, with the largest contingent being from the United States (26.1 percent of the field). Spain (13 percent) and France (10.4 percent) were the next highest-represented nations.
Of the more than a thousand entrants, over 400 took a seat thanks to becoming a PokerStars Platinum Pass winner. These proverbial golden tickets were handed out over the past few years through a wide variety of promotions, contests, and leaderboards. At the time this article was published, there were 17 pass winners among the 50 largest stacks in the live update chip counts.

Prior to this year’s PSPC and the record-setting 2019 running, only three $25,000 buy-in poker events had ever even exceeded the 500-entry mark. The three in question were consecutive runnings of the World Poker Tour Championship events held from 2006-2008. The largest of those events was the 2007 running, which saw Carlos Mortensen defeat a field of 639 entries to earn $3,970,415. That event held the record for 12 years before Ramon Colollas took down the 2019 PSPC for $5,100,000.
The largest $25,000 event outside of that tournament was the 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS World held at the Caribbean Poker Party. The $10 million guaranteed event drew 394 entries.
The PSPC is being live-streamed on PokerStar’s YouTube and Twitch channels. Action is expected to start at 12:30 PM EST for days 3 and 4 (Feb. 1-2), with the final table set to begin at 1:00 PM EST on Feb. 3.
