Chris Read Wins $50,000 Overlay Ladies Event At The Lodge Poker Club In TexasBill Perkins Adds $50,000 To Prize Pool In Response To Man Winning Florida Ladies Event |

In late April, a man by the name of David Hughes entered and won a ladies event in Florida, prompting backlash from the poker community. While some states have laws in place that make it impossible to ban men from playing women’s-only tournaments, most agree that Hughes broke the unwritten rule that men stay away.
In response, businessman and high-stakes poker player Bill Perkins offered up a $50,000 prize pool overlay, teaming up with the Lodge Poker Club to host a ladies-only poker tournament in Round Rock, Texas. Perkins made it clear that there were “no men allowed.”
Think I'm going to have a 500 50k guaranteed overlay women only poker tournamen at the lodge. @LodgePokerClub let's do this and give poker what it needs . No men allowed. #Poker

With news of the overlay spread, women flew in from all over the country to participate in the $500 buy-in tournament. After registration closed, the field had grown to 326 entries, creating a prize pool of $196,702 when accounting for Perkins’ added $50,000.
Additionally, Perkins announced that the winner would also be eligible for a $25,000 sponsorship deal for repping his book, Die With Zero. Card Player spoke to Perkins about the book on the Poker Stories Podcast back in 2020.
The final table was live-streamed on The Lodge’s YouTube channel, featuring commentary from Jamie Kerstetter and Ruth Hall.
The final five players decided to make a deal based on the chip stacks, leaving some additional cash to play for, along with Perkins’ sponsorship deal. After nearly 15 hours of play, it was none other than longtime women’s poker advocate Chris Read who came away with the title and the $28,466 first-place prize.
The Biloxi resident is no stranger to ladies events as the live reporter for the Women’s Poker Association and representative for Mississippi and Louisiana. Read is also the founder of the Poker Queens facebook group, which currently has nearly 2,500 members.
“Yesterday was a pretty amazing day,” Read wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to everyone who helped put this together and gave support to all of the ladies.”
Read even shared footage from the event, as well as interviews with Bill Perkins and Ebony Kenney on her YouTube channel.
This was the biggest cash of Read’s career, and put her over the $300,000 in earnings mark. She has over a dozen live victories and 120 recorded cashes overall.
The event was part of the Lodge Poker Championship tournament series that ran from April 26 to May 16.
Ashley Frank, a popular poker vlogger known as PokerfaceAsh, finished fourth for $23,343.
The final hand saw Read flop a ten-high straight against the pocket kings of Krisha Augerot. All of the chips went in with Read as a 97 percent favorite to win the pot and the title. Augerot was drawing dead after a blank on the turn, finishing second for $27,641.
