Today, the championship events of both the
UltimateBet Aruba Poker Classic (
APC) and the
United States Poker Championship (
USPC) start.
This year's version of Trump Taj Mahal's
USPC has been going on since Sept. 17. The series is made up of 19 events with buy-ins ranging from $350 to the $10,000 championship event. For years, the championship was filmed for broadcast by
ESPN, but not this year.
ESPN has dropped filming of all tournaments that don't have the words "
World Series of Poker" in front of them.
The
USPD's no-limit hold'em events have attracted decent crowds, but some of the other tournaments, featuring stud and Omaha, failed to break into triple-digit entry numbers. The best weekend so far came the weekend of Sept. 21, when 520 players entered Friday's $350 no-limit hold'em event and 324 showed up for a $550 no-limit hold'em event the next day.

The $5,500 championship event of the
APC also starts today. This event used to be a
World Poker Tour event, but not anymore. Many of the players in the
APC will have qualified for the event through UltimateBet.
Players 18 and older can play in this event, so it's probable that a few players under the age of 20 will be at this final table.
The championship of the
APC is one of nine events that are taking place this week at the Radisson Aruba Resort and Casino. All of the events are no-limit hold'em and cost $550, $1,060, or $5,500. Click

Final tables for both championship events will take place this Saturday.
