Seonguk Huh won the World Poker Tour Prime main event in Taiwan that was hosted by the WPT and Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association. The poker player from South Korea took home his first WPT Prime title and the top prize of $197,741, which was by far the largest cash of his poker tournament career. Huh was also awarded a $10,400 seat in the WPT World Championship in December at Wynn Las Vegas.
The NT$33,000 ($1,064 USD) buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament saw a large turnout of 1,359 entries over three starting flights that set a record for the largest WPT Prime main event field ever. The top 173 players all took home at least $821 in prize money from the total prize pool worth $1,237,387 which easily surpassed the $1 million guarantee. Notable players eliminated along the way to the final table before the final day of play included WPT Beijing champion Pete Chen (94th), and former WPT Prime Cambodia champion David Erquiaga (161st).
There were players from six different countries among the final nine when cards got into the air at the final table, and Huh was right in the middle of the chip counts when play began. Huh wasted no time getting in on the action by taking out Guillem Segura in ninth place to start climbing the leaderboard.
Huh kept that momentum rolling by taking Feng Wen Chen in eighth place. Huh was at it once again when he busted Dongkyu Kim in sixth place. Huh also played a part in taking out Jacky Wang in fourth place, and he held about three-fourths of the chips in play by that point. Huh took out Seung Hun Ko in third place to take a nearly 4:1 chip lead in the final match against Yannick Leonard.
Huh made quick work of the heads-up final that lasted less than half an hour as he won every showdown pot on his path to victory. The final hand saw Leonard get all in with KJ, and Huh woke up with AK against him. The final board read K83A2, and Leonard was eliminated in second place, good for $131,790. It was also the largest tournament score by far for the Frenchman thanks to his deep run in the event.
