Strip Poker: Vince Neil to Host Charity EventScheduled for Nov. 3 at the Hard Rock Casino |
|
In this "Strip Poker" series, Card Player covers the Las Vegas poker scene - on The Strip and around the city.
Hard-rocker and lead singer of Mötley Crüe Vince Neil, is holding his Third-Annual Off The Strip Poker Tournament at The Joint, appropriately inside the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas, to benefit the Skylar Neil Memorial Fund and the T.J. Martell Foundation.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3, and seating is limited to 150 people. The buy-in is $500 (plus a $50 entry fee) with rebuys and add-ons allowed throughout the first four rounds of play. The prize pool is a guaranteed $50,000 to the top 10 players.
In addition to the tournament, which starts at 4 p.m., there will be a cocktail reception and a live charity auction starting at 3 p.m. It will be hosted by a few adult film stars. All members of the public are also welcome to view and bid on the plethora of sports, music, and entertainment memorabilia on display for the silent auction. Participants will be treated to the party-like atmosphere that is always present inside the Hard Rock Casino, but the real benefactors will be the charities close to Neil's heart.
The Skylar Neil Memorial Fund was formed just after the death of his young daughter, Skylar. She suffered from stomach cancer and lost the fight in 1995 (Click here to read Skylar's story). This organization will receive the proceeds from the event, along with the T.J. Martell Foundation. The charities support research for the treatment of leukemia, cancer, and AIDS.
Last year, more than 140 entrants showed up to support the cause and included superstars from both the entertainment industry and the poker community. Former World Series of Poker main-event champion Tom McEvoy, Chip and Karina Jett, and Kenna James were among the poker professionals that played. The Vince Neil Off The Strip Poker Tournament has raised more than $300,000, and since this year's event is expected to sell out, much more money will be added to that tally. Since becoming involved with the T.J. Martell Foundation, Neil has contributed to raising almost $2 million for the foundation with numerous charitable efforts.
