Just days after an alleged Canadian burglar was kicked out of the WSOP Paradise series, another player was given the same treatment after being involved in a fight at the Prague stop on the European Poker Tour.
The incident came during the final hands of the night on Tuesday, according to PokerNews, and saw Italian player Michele Nizzardelli removed and disqualified from the tournament after becoming involved in a fight with a player he’d just eliminated.
Hold’em Headbutt
The incident and hand in question saw Swedish pro Ghattas Kortas move all in with pocket tens and Nizzardelli call with A-K. Nizzardelli went on to win the hand after flopping a king.
Apparently upset at his elimination, Kortas grabbed Nizzardelli’s hat when he turned around and began walking away. Nizzardelli took exception and pushed Kortas to the ground from behind. Kortas got up to confront his opponent when Nizzardelli reportedly delivered a headbutt to his nose, sending him to the ground again.
Security then intervened and Nizzardelli was removed from the tournament and escorted out of the venue.
Nizzardelli has about $78,000 in live tournament winnings and Kortas has just over $525,000. However, neither will now be chalking up winnings in this event. The €5,300 buy-in event drew a record field of nearly 1,285 entrants and will award a first-place prize of €1,030,000 in the coming days.
A Look At Some Other Poker Fights
Fights are nothing new when it comes to the world of poker. With players in close quarters for so many hours at the table, tempers flare and personalities clash now and again.
In 2022, two players squared off in the Hustler Casino poker room. The incident involved a table being used as a weapon and one man taking exception to the other allegedly insulting his mother.
In 2020, a fight broke out in the Aria poker room between a dealer and a player. The incident also saw a table used as a weapon and the dealer chasing the player in the venue. Some later said that the dealer was popular with players and had been attacked with a beer poured on him. A GoFundMe raised $5,775 for the dealer.
