Most players have made a bad fold at times. But most haven’t made a bad fold that cost them more than $500,000. A player on the Hustler Casino Live “Million Dollar Game” did just that on Thursday.

All the losing player in this case had to do was simply table his cards at showdown to win a pot of $543,000. Instead, he either misread his hand or the board, and mucked the winner.

The hand in question came with blinds at $500-$1,000 with a $2,000 big blind ante. “Texas Mike” Moncek, fresh off a massive bluff in the game earlier in the week, raised the action to $4,000 with QHeart Suit 9Heart Suit and saw a call from Tom Dwan with 5Diamond Suit 5Club Suit. A mystery player named Thomas, described as European businessman, also called with 8Club Suit 7Diamond Suit.

A player named Steve, a former lawyer, found KDiamond Suit KClub Suit in the small blind and three-bet to $22,000. Popular high-stakes live stream player Alan Keating made the call with AHeart Suit 3Heart Suit and Moncek, Dwan, and Thomas all called as well to swell the pot to $112,000.

The flop came down 10Heart Suit 9Club Suit 4Club Suit on the flop and Steve checked his overpair, followed by Keating. Moncek then bet $56,000 and Dwan folded. Thomas called with his open-end straight draw and Steve also called with his pocket kings.

With the pot now at $280,000, the turn brought the 2Spade Suit and this time Steve bet the minimum of $1,000. Both of his opponents called and the river brought the JClub Suit.

This gave Thomas a straight and Steve quickly checked. Moncek also checked and Thomas bet $130,000. Steve took just a bit before announcing a call, and Moncek folded. Amazingly, Thomas quickly mucked despite holding the winning hand and Steve raked in the pot of $543,000.

“I’m not sure if he misread his hand or thought he was bluffing,” commentator David Tuchman announced. “Clearly, he thought he was bluffing because he pointed to his opponent right away. What just happened?”

The pot represented about half of Steve’s eventual winnings, as he cashed out $982,500 ahead. In the end, however, Keating turned out to be the night’s big winner, cashing out for $2.8 million and a profit of $1.5 million.

Despite winning more than $500,000 on the first night of play, Thursday’s session proved to be a disaster for two-time bracelet winner Michael ‘Texas Mike’ Moncek, who lost a massive $2.2 million coinflip against Keating to finish his session down $2.75 million overall.
