Hendon Mobster Wins Great British Poker Tour

Joe Beevers Wins £87,500 at Gala Sponsored Great British Poker Tour

One hundred players took to the felt at the Great British Poker Tour (GBPT) grand final over the weekend, which saw Hendon Mobster Joe Beevers collect the winner's check of £87,500 when he beat Rob Akery heads up after almost 12 hours of final-table play.

The £2,500 event attracted a field of well-known players, including a U.S. contingent of Jennifer Tilly, Phil Laak, Robert Williamson III, and Jamie Gold.

None would make it as far as the final table, though, which read like a who's who of both old- and new-school British poker (in seat order):Joe Beevers is the best of British at the GBPT

  3. Rob Akery - 146,600

A prize pool of £250,000 was generated and was eventually dispersed thusly:

  2. Rob Akery - £53,250
  3. Barny Boatman - £36,500
  4. Charalambos "Bambos" Xanthos - £22,250
  5. Roland De Wolfe - £16,000
  6. Manuel Palanca - £11,000
  7. Matt Tyler - £9,250
  8. Neil Channing - £8,000

Additional prizes were awarded for first to fifth in the form of:

  • Bellagio Five-Diamond World Poker Classic package
  • Aussie Millions package
  • European Poker Tour 2008 event package
  • £500 + £50 main event buy-in to a 2008 GBPT festival of choice

The event was filmed for broadcast on ITV4 in the UK.
