Strip Poker: Orleans Introduces a POY Worth $100,000Prizes Also Awarded for Player of the Month |
|
In this “Strip Poker” series, Card Player covers the Las Vegas poker scene -- on The Strip and around the city.
Successful tournament players have one characteristic in common ─ consistency, and the Orleans is adding an extra incentive for locals and regular players to bring their A-game every time. Starting yesterday, players can earn points in the daily no-limit hold'em tournaments that will go toward Orleans Player of the Year (OPOY) standings. Top finishers will receive $100,000 in cash prizes.
Every day, the Orleans holds no-limit hold'em tournaments at noon and 7 p.m. (The exceptions are the tournaments on Monday at noon and Thursday at 7 p.m., which are Omaha eight-or-better tournaments and do not award OPOY points.) The buy-in is $80 for all tournaments, excluding the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 7 p.m. tournaments, which have $105 buy-ins.
All players who finish in the money in any of these tournaments receive points. The amount of points awarded depends on the number of entrants. All participants must have a players card to be eligible. At the end of the year, the top nine players will receive a share of $100,000.
In addition, the 2008 Orleans Player of the Year will receive a gold bracelet to commemorate the accomplishment. Along the way, players can also earn prizes for having a great month. The top three players at the end of each month will receive a share of $5,000.
“We are trying to do something different to reward our local players,” said Orleans Tournament Director Marlin Berland. “Hopefully it will stimulate tournament action, which will in turn be great for the poker room overall.”
