The $1 million PartyPoker.com Premier League Poker returns from Feb. 10-16 in London with 12 of the world’s top players vying to take down the title and $250,000 first prize.
Player’s returning from the 2007 event — which was won by Juha Helppi — are 11-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, cardplayereurope.com European Player of the Year Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott, Tony G, Andy Black, Ian Frazer, Roland De Wolfe, Vicky Coren, Juha Helppi, and Eddy Scharf.
Joining them this year are “Flying Dutchman” Marcel Luske, Annie Duke, and Russian WSOP bracelet winner Alexander Kravchenko.
The format of the tournament, devised by organiers Matchroom Sports, sees the players play six times in the preliminary stage with the top four players moving on to the final table and the next four playing heads-up matches for the final two places.
The buy-in for the event is $60,000, and partybets.com makes the Devilfish a 5/1 favourite to win the event, but Helppi will not be giving up his title easily.
“It will be very hard to take this title from me. I will do anything it takes to defend it,” he said.
A PartyPoker.com spokesman said, “Premier League Poker was an outstanding success last year with both players and viewers. Devilfish’s recent form makes him the favourite to win, a status that he is bound to embrace much to the annoyance of Hellmuth and Tony G.”
The event will be filmed for broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK in late March.
