Randoman54 and BrooksterThey put the mouse away and turned off the computer for one night to meet up with fellow SpadeClub members in person last week for a live tournament at the Suncoast Casino in Las Vegas. Twenty-four SpadeClub members joined 53 other players for the poker room’s 7 p.m. $45 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament.

The organizer was Janyce Brooks, better known to the SpadeClub community as “Brookster.” She posted numerous blogs to gather a player list of the members willing to meet up and even made name tags for the tournament with screen names printed on them. Also contributing was Randy Holmgren or “Randoman54.”

“I noticed many players (on SpadeClub) were from Vegas and thought to myself how nice it would be to meet and play against the person behind the avatar,” said Holmgren.

Half of the final table in the 77-person tournament were SpadeClubLanarian, VTruong, and Joshboy23 members. “PHXPoker,” “KJock,” “Georgebals,” and “Blademaster” finished in seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth places respectively. “Joshboy23,” a founding member of SpadeClub, participated in a first-place three-way chop of $1,600.

“The tourney was a huge success all the feedback was positive, so we will plan another one in a couple of months,” said Holmgren. “Now others from different parts of the country are starting to try to get a live tournament together in their area. SpadeClub is a genuine poker community filled with players who love poker.”
