PokerStars Sunday Million

Soren Kongsgaard wins at the Sunday Million The PokerStars Sunday Million had 6,747 entrants last night, which meant players were vying for a prize pool of $1,349,400. That left almost $160,000 for the first-place finisher, should no deal be made at the final table.

Prominent poker pro Soren “Kongsgaard” Kongsgaard made the final table of the event and then outlasted seven of his opponents to get heads up with swishes2000. Kongsgaard had made the final table of the Sunday Million last year, in February 2007, when he eventually finished in fourth. This time, Kongsgaard followed through to close out the table and land the full first-place payday. His win also put him in the top 100 of the Card Player Online Player of the Year (OPOY) race.

Full Tilt $750,000 Guarantee

Full Tilt’s $750,000-guaranteed event suffered yet another overlay when 3,500 entrants bought into the event, making this the seventh week in a row that the tournament’s guarantee has not been met or surpassed by virtue of buy-ins. Jason 'Jcarver' SomervilleThat attendance number left $50,000 on the table for Full Tilt to plunk down to meet the guarantee.

When it got down to heads-up play — after a very decently stacked final table (see the final results, below) — it was Jason “Jcarver” Somerville (pictured at right) versus th_IN_kB4Urail for the biggest chunk of change. Th_IN_kB4Urail ultimately outlasted his final foe to pocket the almost $133,000 first-place prize.

The final results were:

  1. th_IN_kB4Urail — $132,788
  2. Jason “Jcarver” Somerville — $80,250

UltimateBet $200,000 Guarantee

The UltimateBet $200,000-guaranteed event had 882 entrants last night, which meant attendance had dropped back down after the promising 967 entrants from last week. UltimateBet had to come out of pocket for $23,600 to match its posted guarantee.

The event had an all-star cast of notable Internet poker players at its final table, as is often the case in the tournament, for whatever reason. Among those players was Brian “WarrickDunn28” Hawkins (aka SNo0oWMAN), who currently sits in second place in the OPOY standings. WarrickDunn28 bowed out in third place, and Allen “AawwNuts” Carter and Mark “dipthr0ng” Herm were left to go mano-a-mano for the top prize of $45,000. AawwNuts eventually beat out the last of the impressive lineup to take the title in the event.

The final results were:

  1. Allen “AawwNuts” Carter — $45,000
  2. Mark “dipthr0ng” Herm — $27,000
  3. Brian “WarrickDunn28” Hawkins — $18,500
  4. Jamie “mx4ever” Sloat — $13,000
  5. Ace Medunas — $11,000

Rmobley65 — who made the final table of this event just two weeks ago, eventually finishing in fourth — made it to the final table of the tournament again this week. He beat out his previous finish and got to heads-up play versus big benton. Rmobley eventually raked in the final pot of the tournament to land his first win in the event, earning $23,600.
