PokerStars Sunday Million

The PokerStars Sunday Million had a very impressive week last week when it doubled its guarantee and had its largest-ever field and prize pool. Last night was back to business as usual for the event, but some of the allure from last week must have lingered, as the field was still much larger than usual. Last night’s Sunday Million had 8,589 entrants to generate a prize pool of $1,717,800, which offered nearly $210,000 for the first-place finisher if a deal was not made at the final table.

And, surprisingly for a Sunday Million, especially one with this large of a prize pool, a deal was not struck at the final table. The final two players in the event, SAM66 and Shantaram, had each earned six-figure paydays, but they were each still playing to eliminate their final opponent and snag the almost $70,000 difference in payouts between first and second place. It was eventually SAM66 who took down the final pot to benefit the most from not having made a deal. He pocketed $209,572 for his first-place finish versus a massive field.

The final results were:

  1. SAM66 — $209,572
  2. Shantaram — $141,719
  3. MrMuck1976 — $95,338
  4. rubenrtv — $77,301
  5. pepperdiablo — $60,123
  6. my_emolument — $42,945
  7. moorten — $30,062
  8. Axinar — $19,755
  9. Cjh1224 — $13,399

Full Tilt $1 Million Guarantee

Alex 'AJKHoosiers1' Kamberis Just as last week’s Sunday Million appeared to have rubbed off on this week’s event, last week’s successful Full Tilt $750,000-guaranteed tournament (the first in 11 weeks not to require an overlay) was followed by this week’s successful $1 million-guaranteed event. The tournament brought in 2,396 runners at $500 apiece to build a prize pool of $1,198,000. That meant a top prize of almost $220,000, more than even the Sunday Million, even though the Sunday Million had a much larger prize pool, because of Full Tilt’s more top-heavy payout structure.

When it came down to the heads-up battle for the big money, it was Alex “AJKHoosier1” Kamberis (pictured at right) versus GulahPapyrus. GulahPapyrus wound up taking down the final hand of the event to land the $219,773 payday, while AJKHoosier1 got $85,000 less at $134,895 for second place. Kamberis also vaulted into third place in the Card Player Online Player of the Year race with his finish in the event.

The final results were:

  1. GulahPapyrus — $219,773
  2. Alex “AJKHoosier1” Kamberis — $134,895
  3. hurikane3 — $88,293
  4. Kevin A__theKevlar__2 Schulz — $70,442
  5. SitAndStack — $53,311
  6. Chipleader56 — $38,336
  7. Nom Sayin — $28,153
  8. acatlover — $22,043
  9. ILIKEPONIES — $16,772

UltimateBet $200,000 Guarantee

The UltimateBet $200,000-guaranteed event had 903 entrants last night, making for a $19,400 overlay. Unlike at PokerStars and Full Tilt, that attendance number was down from last week, when the event had 987 entrants.

Players were gunning for a $45,000 first-place prize, and the final two players in the running for it were elwooddog and udubgrrl80. Udubgrrl80 became the final player standing to collect the top payday.

The final results were:

  1. udubgrrl80 — $45,000
  2. elwooddog — $26,500

  8. RockinGuitar — $4,500
  9. Scott Ian — $3,400
  10. Jon “jlewis10748” Lewis — $2,000

Bodog $100,000 Guarantee

The attendance at the Bodog $100,000-guaranteed event was down slightly from last week’s 783 entrants when 753 players bought in last night. That meant that Bodog came out of pocket for $24,700, more than the first-place prize of $23,600.

Dippydough went up against 35thcorvette for the top prize in the tournament. After a very short heads-up match, dippydough took down the final hand to snag the biggest payday.

CardPlayer.com readers should remember to check back on Thursday or Saturday for the password to the Card Player-exclusive Bodog $100K qualifier, a tournament in which Bodog overlays five seats to the event.
