Mary MartinThe Amateur Poker Association and Tour (APAT) held the United Kingdom Team Championship in the G Casino, Blackpool, on July 19 and 20. Teams of 10 were assembled out of 200 entries from 20 UK poker communities with a £50 buy-in per person.

The final table consisted of Rich Offless (Chezger), Ross Johnson (Poker Player), Dale Leighton, Steve Talbot (Eat My Stack), Mary Martin (Raise the River), Nathan Samuel (UK Football Fans),  Andrew Bailey (Gutshot), Rod Buckman (Bristol & South West Meetup), and Paul Smith (Bristol & South West Meetup).

The first to go was Offless in ninth. Johnson followed him out in eighth, and Buckman in seventh. With six players left, Smith and Talbot were the chip leaders, but Martin quickly became the most feared opponent. She doubled through Samuel, crippling him and leaving him to be sent out next in sixth place, and continued the slaughter by knocking out Leighton in fifth. The final three players emerged then when Talbot’s K-Q could not withstand Bailey’s A-Q.

Short-stacked Smith was soon the prey of chip leader Martin, leaving her in a comfortable position going into heads-up play against Bailey. The final battle was short and sweet, with Raise The River’s Martin claiming victory and the title of APAT UK Team Championship Individual Winner. She also took home the £1,250 cash prize, the championship gold medal, and an expenses paid entry into a GUKPT event worth $3,000, courtesy of APAT sponsor BlueSquarePoker.com.

Bristol & South West Meetup triumphed in the Team Championship. They were the only community with two final tablists, and so took home £2,500, plus an extra £1,000 from Blue Square, which was given to the team owners. Raise the River did well, making their second appearance on the higher planes of the result sheet, finishing in second place (£1,500), while newcomers Fantasy Interactive Sports Online took down third (£1,000).
