PokerStars.net has announced a lineup of 20 familiar poker faces flying east to take part in its Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT). Among the terrifying 20 are Isabelle Mercier, Grant Levy, Mel Judah, Daniel "Rekrul" Schreiber, Harry "Wise Owl" Demetriou, Lee Nelson, and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier.
The Tour, which is expected to become the largest Asian poker tournament, will be held at the Grand Waldo Hotel and Casino, Macau, in China from Sept. 1-9.
More than 500 entrants will hit the felt, including a recent addition to the pro lineup, Johnny “The Orient Express” Chan.
Chan said, “It's great for poker in Asia that there's a major tournament like this here in Macau. It's attracting all of the top players in the sport, and letting the world know that there is real poker, real poker players, and that anybody can win millions of dollars."
Alternative routes to China for those still hoping to compete among some of the world’s greatest poker stars include online satellites from as little as $2.20 or 50 FPP credits on PokerStars.com, live mega-satellites at the PokerStars Macau poker room at the Grand Waldo Casino, currently running until Aug. 31, or buy-in directly on-site.
The Tour's second season looks forward to the $25,000 HKD ($3,200 US) main event, which will run from Sept. 1-6. With a large field anticipated, this tournament is expected to break all sorts of records for poker tournaments in Asia. The highly acclaimed $150,000 HKD ($19,250 U.S.) high-roller event is also set to spice things up from Sept. 7-9. The two events, which have a minimum prize pool of $10M HKD, will be televised.
Jeffrey Haas, president of the PokerStars.net APPT said, “We are excited to have so many of the world's top players coming to the Grand Waldo Casino in Macau this year. It's a testament to the success of Season 1 that champions such as Chan, Joe Hachem, Scotty Nguyen, Men “The Master” Nguyen, and Barry Greenstein are eager to compete on the felt during our second season. We're privileged to continue leading the growth of poker and poker culture in Asia, and expect local and regional player participation to at least double during this year's events.”
