Nick Jenkins beat a field of more than 200 to take home the World Championship of Amateur Poker 2008 title, the championship cup, gold medal, and a first prize of £3,500. His winnings did not stop there, as he also received an expenses-paid package worth $8,000 to the GUKPT final event from the event’s sponsor BlueSquarePoker.com.
In the final hand heads-up, both Jenkins and Tony Ross went into a raising war, which resulted in both players all in. The A-10-8-4-5 board proved too much for Ross’ Q-J, however, as Jenkins was sitting pretty with A-8. Ross walked away with £2,250 for his efforts.
The Amateur Poker Association and Tour (APAT) World Championship 2008 was held at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino in London for five days from Aug. 27-31. Many players shone across the various side events that took place, including Dave Howard, who won the pot-limit Omaha, Mike Bodman, who won the razz, and Owen Rankin, who won the stud event.
The overall player of the WCOAP award went to Omaha champ Dave Howard, who also placed second in the stud tournament.
