PokerStars Sunday Million

Daniel 'amichaiKK' MakowskyThe recently concluded World Championship of Online Poker at PokerStars was an undeniable success, which makes the lackluster return of the Sunday Million this week all the more surprising. The event lured 7,133 entrants, which was 367 entrants shy of meeting the $1.5 million guarantee on the merits of entrants alone. That attendance meant that PokerStars had to come out of pocket for $73,400 to match the tournament’s posted guarantee.

Tuffy Cat and AceBonG outlasted the vast majority of the field in the event to wind up heads up versus each other for the top prize. A deal was not to be made, and the two were destined to duke it out for the full $184,500 first-place payday, which equated to a difference of almost $60,000 in payouts for the two. Tuffy Cat took out his final foe to earn that extra $60,000 for his first-place finish.

The final results were:

  1. Tuffy Cat — $184,500
  2. AceBonG — $124,950
  3. londanuk — $84,000
  4. SantiagoRain — $69,000
  5. Alex “Assassinato” Fitzgerald — $54,000
  6. hustln_ps — $39,000
  7. agiletto — $26,250
  8. WatchOutSir — $17,250
  9. Daniel “amichaiKK” Makowsky (pictured above)— $10,500

Full Tilt $750,000 Guarantee

Like PokerStars, the Sunday major at Full Tilt also required an overlay. The tournament had 3,454 entrants, which meant the prize pool fell short of the $750,000 guarantee. Full Tilt put $59,200 into the prize pool as an overlay in the event as a result.

The main beneficiaries of that overlay were DukeTheDude and waffle1215. Those two outlasted 3,452 other entrants to find out who would win $80,000 and who would take home $133,000. The extra $53,000 went to waffle1215 when he crushed DukeTheDude in the final pot to take in all of the chips in the tournament.

The final results were:

  1. waffle1215 — $132,788
  2. DukeTheDude — $80,250
  3. TheCloserX5 — $52,500
  4. WhitneyHouston1 — $41,400
  5. dubbydub2002 — $31,050
  6. Baumerball — $23,025
  7. Reinders — $17,250
  8. flymaxx — $13,500
  9. bigtoe2227 — $10,050

UltimateBet $200,000 Guarantee

Jon 'PearlJammer' TurnerThe UltimateBet $200,000-guaranteed event lured fewer entrants than normal when just 776 players bought in last night. UltimateBet forked over $44,800 to match the guarantee for the tournament. This was the lowest attendance the tournament has seen in a month.

NegativeROI made his second deep run in the event in less than a month when he got heads up versus Jared “soxnation83” Mahoney. NegativeROI had finished as runner-up on Aug. 31. He did no better this week when he succumbed to soxnation83 in the final pot. Soxnation83 outlasted the field to earn the $46,000 first-place prize.
