An innocent poker player died in a hail of 18 bullets on Sunday morning in a social club in Casal di Principe, Italy the victim of a mafia “civil war” according to interior minister Roberto Maroni as reported in the Independent newspaper in the UK today.
Recently retired Stanislao Cantelli was believed to have been targeted because two of his nephews recently turned state’s counsel with the evidence of one leading to the issuing of 107 arrest warrants and the confiscation of €100 million worth of gang-owned property.
The paper said police believe the killer is Giuseppe Setola, who is described as “violent, unbalanced and a heavy user of cocaine” and is believed to be behind the recent murder of seven people in the Caserta province north of Naples which led to last weekend’s massive state crackdown on mafia violence.
