Harrah's Casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana closed Thursday as Hurricane Rita churned toward the Gulf States. The property includes a 257-room hotel and two casinos totaling 60,000 square feet. Approximately 1,400 people work at the property. Harrah's plans to resume normal operations at Harrah's Lake Charles as soon as possible.
Harrah's took heavy damage to two of its floating casinos in Gulfport and Biloxi, Mississippi, displacing more than 5,000 employees, when Hurricane Katrina hit. Harrah's New Orleans also sustained damage, but not nearly as much as its sisters in Mississippi.
