Online Poker Sites Raising Money For Victims of Hurricane Katrina
Bodog.com and AbsolutePoker.com to Host Fundraising Tournaments
The poker world is coming together to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Online cardrooms Bodog.com and AbsolutePoker.com are each offering customers a chance to donate to The Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund.
From September 8th - 12th Bodog.com is hosting five poker tournaments a day to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Bodog will match and donate all of the player's fees to the Red Cross. "We are deeply saddened to hear of the many victims caught in the Devastating path of the hurricane," says Calvin Ayre, Founder and CEO of Bodog.com. "So many people have been adversely affected by this natural disaster, and our benefit poker tournament is the least we can do to help ease the pain of Those who were most affected."
For its part, AbsolutePoker.com is sponsoring an online donation "tournament." The fundraiser will not include any actual poker games. Instead, players can register in "tournament" rooms, which will simply act as e-collection boxes for donations. The "tourneys" will range from $1, $10, $25, $50, $100 tables. Players can also make account transfers from their own account to an account called KATRINAFUND, through the Absolute Poker Cashier. The maximum transfer is $500, however, those interested in donating more than $500 can email [email protected].
Bodog.com and AbsolutePoker.com are no strangers to gaming philanthropy. Most recently, Bodog hosted a weekend long extravaganza in Hawaii to benefit the Fisher House Foundation. Absolute Poker had great success with its fundaraiser for victims of the Asian Tsunami on December 26th , donating over $14,000 to the Red Cross.
