Research published today in the January 2009 issue of Card Player Poker + Sport has confirmed that Denmark is the most successful poker playing nation on earth.

One week in November confirmed this unequivocally when three Danish poker players cleared $10 million in Jan Sorensentournament prize money: 22-year-old Peter Eastgate won the World Series of Poker main event, Jan Sorensen the Amsterdam Master Classics main event, and “hahila” the Ladbrokes European Online Championship of Poker IV main event.

Card Player Media has been studying the per capita poker playing prowess of countries around the world since the launch of World Tracker in July 2008. The World Tracker tool collates and analyses results from an extensive list of qualifying tournaments (including WSOP, WPT, and EPT events) and awards Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals to the countries whose players come first, second, and third in major international tournaments.

Recent results have propelled Denmark to a significant lead while Sweden entered the top five for the first time pushing Canada into fifth and Norway into sixth.

The top five countries in the poker tournament world are currently:

  1. Denmark    2.04 medals per million
  2. USA             1.33 medals per million
  3. Australia     1.21 medals per million
  4. Sweden      0.67 medals per million
  5. Canada      0.66 medals per million

Check the new January 2009 edition of Card Player Poker + Sports for the most recent findings.
