The demand for tournament poker has led to the creation of many professional poker circuits. The World Poker Tour (WPT), and the World Series of Poker Circuit, are both available for highly capitalized players to show their chops on the biggest stages in the poker world. So where can the skilled amateur, who realistically does not feel he is ready to make the step to high stakes poker, go? Enter the Small Town Poker Tour (STPT), a poker tour designed exclusively for the amateur player.
The STPT will travel across the United States, putting on a series of charity tournaments, in an attempt to find America's number one amateur poker player. Tournament Director Matt Savage will oversee, and the tournaments will be filmed for T.V. Only the finals will be filmed in a casino. The rest of the action will offer a peak into the world of amateur and charity poker outside of the casino environment.
Plans to take the STPT to Canada, Europe, and Asia are already underway, so the possibility of finding the world's number one amateur may not be far off.
STPT recently hired "The Division" to promote and market their upstart poker tour.
