The Korean Times reported on Christmas Day that five Buddist monks had been apprehended for playing poker at a hotel in North Chungcheong Province.
The monks, who were staying at the hotel near Mt. Songni to attend a Buddhist event, had over 9 million won in play (approx. $6,700) and according to a police source quoted in the newspaper it appears someone informed on them.
"We were tipped off that a group of monks were gambling,'' a police officer said.
