EPT -- PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Day 2

Field Makes the Money After Just 10 Levels of Play

David BakerTwo grueling days of competition led the way for payday at the 2009 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. The large field of 1,347 somehow managed to burst the money bubble in just 10 levels, leaving many to wonder if this tournament would ever show off its brakes.

The action was so fast, in fact, that one player was able to cash without ever playing a single hand. With roughly 380 players remaining and the day set to begin, Mike "CHI01" Chiappetta was stacked with around 85,000. The only problem was that Chiappetta was dealing with a family emergency and couldn't participate in the day 2 festivities. Luckily for him, he was able to safely blind all the way down to 25,000 before the bubble burst, leaving him $12,500 richer, whenever he comes to collect his prize money. Eventually he finished in 164th place, beating out almost 30 players ahead of him.

Not everyone was fortunate enough to make the money. Adam Katz was in great position to make a deep run at the final table, but a bad beat sent him home just one level into the day. Katz flopped bottom set and saw himself staring down his opponent's nut flush draw for all the chips. The spade hit the river and Katz was eliminated.

Shannon ShorrShannon Shorr shared a similar fate. After getting it all in with pocket kings against an opponent's pair of sevens, Shorr was in great shape to double up. Unfortunately, his opponent paired his kicker on the river to send an agitated Shorr to the rail. For good measure, his opponent celebrated wildly about the beat, while Shorr took a few minutes to calm down away from the tournament room.

David "Bakes" Baker, a well-known online player, emerged with the chip lead just minutes into the day when he got tangled in a pot with WPT winner Jonathan Little. Little raised to 4,000 and Dan "Wretchy" Martin reraised all in for 13,000. Baker then made it 23,000 and Little moved all in for a total of over 200,000. Baker immediately called with pocket aces and they held against Little's queens to rake in the massive pot and secure the chip lead. Baker kept his foot on the gas all day long and finished with the overall chip lead and 925,000.

In addition to the main event action, the $25,000 High Roller Event also kicked off with a field of 48 players. Among the notables were Daniel Negreanu, Chris Ferguson, Bill Edler, Daniel Alaei and Antonio Esfandiari. That tournament will resume Thursday afternoon with the final table.

Join us then at noon as we continue to bring you coverage as the main event marches toward the $3 million first-place prize.
