Online Poker -- Jordan Morgan Goes Deep at Full TiltCard Player's Own Shawn Patrick Green Gets Heads Up at Bodog |
|
It was a huge Sunday for online poker, and many tournaments that normally require overlays were able to dig themselves out of the hole. While the big guarantees continued to do their thing, it was the smaller tournaments and venues that really benefitted and were able to thrive with larger-than-normal payouts and prize pools.
Among the notables to do well was Chris "moormanl" Moorman, who took second place in the Sunday Mulligan. Also on Full Tilt, Jeremy "chipsteela" Menard, Vivek "psyduck" Rajkumar, and Jonathan "xMONSTERxDONGx" Karamalikis went 1,2, and 3 in the $33,000-guaranteed rebuy event. Steven Van Zadelhoff, playing as Viktor, was able to take the Sunday Brawl for $93,287.
Over at PokerStars, Peter "Apathy123" Jetten was able to top the $200 heads-up tournament, and Christian "charder30" Harder finished runner-up in the Sunday 500. Continuing his great 2009 campaign, Aditya "Intervntion" Agarwal (pictured above left) took first in the $200 rebuy, moving himself into the top 10 of the Card Player Online Player of the Year race.

PokerStars Sunday Million
The Sunday Million over at PokerStars drew a huge field of 8,500 entrants, adding an additional $200,000 to the prize pool's guarantee of $1.5 million.
The final two tables were filled with uknowns, but a few notables did make a deep run before that. Those who finished in the top 100 included Matt "mlagoo" LaGarde (100th), Patrick "PMJackson21" Jackson (84th), Chris "ilikeaces86" Olson (81st), James "jcamby33" Campbell (69th), Neheer "NemoStars22" Banerji (66th), Bryan "Squirrely1" Sapp (45th), Scott "SCTrojans" Freeman (40th), and Joe "ender555" Ebanks (20th, pictured at right).
After a three-way deal was made, and jnic00 bested i_lv_beer heads up to win the title and the additional $30,000.

Full Tilt $750,000 Guarantee
The biggest tournament on Full Tilt this weekend drew 3,866 entrants, creating a total prize pool of $773,200. Last week's buy-in was $500, but this week the tournament reverted back to it's normal $200 buy-in.
Among the pros to make the money were Eric "basebaldy" Baldwin (93rd), Neheer "Nemostars22" Banerji (67th), Felipe "clotilda" Montenegro (12th), Brian "SN8WMAN" Hawkins (10th), Chris "hattrick8810" Odle (fifth), and Ben "NeverScaredB" Wilinofsky (second).
Four men in red were able to represent Full Tilt proudly with a cash, including Nick Schulman (389th), David Pham (228th), Isaac Baron (167th), and eventual final-tablist Jordan Morgan (third, pictured at right).
After Morgan was eliminated, heads-up play came down to Wilinofsky and dusnguyen. Wilinofsky was unable to pull out the victory, and dusnguyen walked away with $136,895 in winnings.

UltimateBet $200,000 Guarantee
The UltimateBet $200,000 guarantee had a very impressive showing this week with 1,086 entrants. That total meant that the site was able to clear their guaranteed prize pool and avoid an overlay.
Some very strong players were able to make a deep run, including Todd "KoolKeith13" Lewis (76th), Amit "amak316" Makhija (71st), Frank "Gator93" Hernandez (59th), Jon "PokerTrip" Friedberg (51st), and Josh "The_Norf_Man" Norris (31st).
The strongest showings came from the UB pros themselves when Adam "Roothlus" Levy (19th) and Annie Duke (eighth, pictured at right) were able to make the final 20.
When it was all over, UMICH5142 and 7D3LUX7 were both credited with the split win.

Bodog $100,000 Guarantee
The largest weekly prize pool on Bodog attracted 675 entrants, which meant that the site was forced to pony up the $32,500 for the overlay.
The staff here at the Card Player offices were especially pleased to see one of our very own writers, Shawn "Ragaboo" Green, at the final table. Joining him was notable online phenom Luke "IWEARGOGGLES" Staudenmaier (pictured at right).
Green started the final table off as one of the short stacks but was quickly back to a comfortable stack after flopping two pair with A-9. When the tournament got three-handed, Green won a coin flip against former chip leader Staudenmaier to take the overall lead. Staudenmaier was eliminated shortly thereafter, and Green braced himself for a heads-up match with ShOrTy 25.
Both players battled it out for a while before the final hand came down. Green, holding K-J on a jack-high flop, committed the rest of his stack only to see his opponent turn over pocket aces. The turn and river failed to help our intrepid reporter and he was eliminated in second place, earning $13,600. ShOrTy 25 took home the top prize of $23,600.

Cake Poker $250,000 Guarantee
The largest buy-in among the Sunday Majors was at Cake, where 1,133 players put up $250 to compete for their share of the $283,250 prize pool.
Nearly $60,000 was on the line for first place, and it ultimately went to Ryan "ryanghall" Hall when he took out dumper in second place.
