Popular Filippino player Neil Arce has won the 2009 Asian Poker Tour Philippines taking down $185,000 for besting the field Neil Acreof 262 players in the $2,500 + $200 main event at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Manila. Having been chip leader at the end of day 1A he made it to the final table third in chips and defeated well known pros Liz Lieu (7th) and Casey Kastle (3rd) before trumping Steve “joonhee” Yea from South Korea heads up.

Arce took over the chip lead during heads up play and the final hand saw him bet 100,000 before Yea raised to 300,000. The Filippino moved all in with KQ and was called by Yea holding AK. However underdog in the hand Acre hit a queen on the turn and overturned the odds when a blank fell on the river.

Arce, who runs the Metro Card Club in Manila said, “This is just great. I always felt it would come down to me and Steve. For me the key to winning the tournament was position. I was so lucky that Steve was sat on my right – if he was on my left it would have been a completely different final table. I played with Steve all day yesterday when he was on a charge and kept out of his way. I knew that to get anywhere at the final table I had to keep applying pressure and my game plan worked perfectly.”

The event had a total prize pool of $635,500 with 27 players getting paid.
