Harlow Greyhound Stadium in Essex, UK is set to host a charity poker and darts tournament on March 18 at 7:30 p.m. in aid of St. Clare’s Hosipce which recently cared for terminally ill reality TV star Jade Goody. The event sold out in a matter of days and will also feature an evening of greyhound racing and a darts tournament.
The night, organised in conjunction with Roy, “The Boy” Brindley, will see 100 players pony up £55 for the team poker event with snooker legend “Rocket” Ronnie O’Sullivan, international soccer star Tony Cascarino, and former darts world no. 1 Colin “Jaws” Lloyd captaining three of the teams. Wayne Mardle is likely to make an appearance at the felt and will also chance his arm in the 150 player darts tournament as well.
The night will also feature a full card of greyhound races according to marketing and PR director at Harlow Stadium, Mick Davis. “We will be cramming in as many people into our ‘Harlow Hounds Social Club’ on the night for the poker and darts event as possible,” said Davis.
“Outside on the terraces there will be greyhound racing as usual, with free entry for this special night, where we hope to raise another good sum through donations and a raffle for which we have had some brilliant prize donations.
“Roy will be signing copies of his recently released autobiography, ‘Life’s a Gamble’ with proceeds again going to St Clare’s Hospice. Our thanks go to him for his efforts likewise restaurant chain Miller & Carter who will be laying on a buffet free of charge.
“St Clare’s is such a worthy local cause and with such high-profile guests lending their support we would hope to raise a five-figure sum on the night.”
