Blue SquareThe 2009 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour’s third leg has made its way towards the serious end of the London leg — the main event.

Day 1a of the £1,500 + £75 no-limit hold’em main event kicks off today at 2 p.m. (GMT) with a maximum of 200 players expected. Day 1b will then follow suit tomorrow, and on Saturday, Mar. 28, the remainder of both fields will begin the long road towards finding its champion.

Last year's champion Ketul Nathwani will be among runners as he attempts to be the first successful player to defend a GUKPT title.

London’s Grosvenor Victoria casino has seen six champions make their exits since the third leg of the Tour began on Mar. 19, the latest being Thomas Bentham, who took down the Heads Up Championship, earning a nifty £20,000. Richard Gryko went home with a not too shabby £10,000 for his runner-up finish.

Other most recent winners include Richard Kellett (£26,350) in the £200 no-limit hold’em rebuy, and Garry Mills (£13,200) in the £500 pot-limit Omaha double chance freezout.
