Today's promotion on PokerStars gives casual small-stakes poker players a chance to play against one of the best players in the world at a comfortable buy-in.
Bertrand Grospellier, in a quest to break a world record, will register for as many $6.50 sit-and-gos as he can over a one-hour period, starting at 1 p.m. ET today. He only must complete all of the tournaments and finish with an overall profit for the challenge to be considered a success.
There is no current established mark for the most SNGs a player has played in an hour.
PokerStars has added another incentive for players looking to compete against Grospellier. Everyone who plays against Grospellier automatically receives an entry into a $1,000 freeroll that will take place on May 6 at 4 p.m. ET.
Grospellier has a long list of impressive performances on his poker résumé, adding another one this past weekend with his third-place finish in the World Poker Tour championship for $776,000. He won the EPT Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure high-rollers event this year ($433,000), the 2008 WPT Festa Al Lago Classic ($1.4 million), and the 2008 PCA main event ($2 million).
He has more than $5.7 million in live poker tournament winnings in his career.
Note: This article, as well as PokerStars, originally stated that Elky was going to play 45-person sit-and-go tournaments. However, he is currently playing nine-person SNGs.
