Celebrities and poker stars galore turned out for the ninth annual Omar Sharif One to One PKR poker tournament on Sunday, which was won by Beverley Pace (comedian Norman Pace’s wife). Actor and pro poker player, Michael Greco finished second, and actor Dexter Fletcher took third. Familiar poker faces among the celebrities included Roland de Wolfe, Donnacha O’Dea, and Kara Scott.

The £365 ticket for the event, which included the champagne reception and the buy-in to either the PKR.com sponsored poker tournament or the Omar Sharif Backgammon tournament, represented the cost of sponsoring a child for one year at £1 per day. This means that the £100,000 raised by the tournament and auction will enable One to One Children’s Fund to help more than 1,000 children and their families affected by HIV/AIDs in Africa.

With charity tournaments on the increase, there are plenty more to look forward to this year. May 17 will see the Wilhelm & Karl Maybach Foundation and the Sunflower Children Foundation join forces for a celebrity charity poker night at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, which will be hosted by Edward Norton.
