Online Poker -- Weekly OPOY Update, May 22, 2009Steve Gross Maintains Lead |
|
It’s been a couple weeks since the last Online Player of the Year update, and it’s safe to say that the recent Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) has drastically altered the overall look of the top 10.
First place still belongs to Steve “gboro780” Gross, who hasn’t slowed down at all since winning the $200,000 guarantee on UltimateBet last month. Since then, he has made two final tables and won the $200 rebuy.
Sitting behind him in second place is Shaun “tedsfishfry” Deeb. Deeb has kept pace, since being passed earlier this month, by making two final tables and just missing another.
Despite these two players having a seemingly permanent reservation at the top, the third- and fourth-place players are right on their heels. Nick “FU_15” Maimone recently overtook the third-place spot thanks to a runner-up finish in the Absolute Poker $150,000 guarantee. He took the spot from Nick “Grippolio” Grippo, despite the fact that he made two final tables so far this month.
Despite being surrounded in controversy, fifth place is currently inhabited by Dan “Wretchy” Martin, who earned the bulk of his points in a period of four days when he made three $100 rebuy final tables.
With three final tables on the month, Aditya “Intervention” Agarwal sits in sixth place, just 36 points ahead of newcomer Hunter “THEHUNTD” Frey. (pictured above left) Frey has been on fire in May, finishing runner-up in the Sunday 500, winning a $300 buy-in tournament on PokerStars, and making two other final tables.
Thanks to a runner-up performance in a recent Nightly Hundred Grand, Thayer “THAY3R” Rasmussen sits in eighth place.
After winning the $200,000 guarantee rebuy on Full Tilt, David “WhooooKidd” Baker is back in the top 10, sitting in ninth place. Baker also added a runner-up finish in the Sunday $100,000 guarantee to his resume this week.
Perhaps the hottest player online right now sits in 10th place. David “SirSands” Sands (pictured right) is coming off of an incredible month. After winning the Sunday Mulligan, Sands won both an FTOPS event and the $55 rebuy on PokerStars, for combined earnings of $365,000.
