WSOP -- Travis Johnson Wins Event No. 7

After three days of play, and through a field of 2,791 runners, Travis Johnson is the last man standing. Johnson came out on top of event No. 7, a $1,500 no-limit hold’em tournament that wrapped up in the wee hours of Friday morning at the World Series of Poker.

Johnson was the catalyst for most of the action at the final table, picking up big pots early on and riding that momentum to a huge heads-up chip lead, which eventually netted him the title and his first career bracelet.

Kam Low Eliminated in Ninth Place ($81,185)

Kam Low raised to 90,000 from the small blind, and Travis Johnson reraised all in from the big blind. Low made the all-in call, and they flipped up their cards:

Low: A 10
Johnson: Q J

Board: Q Q 6 K 10

Low was eliminated on the hand in ninth place.

James McClain Eliminated in Eighth Place ($87,013)

Mark Salinaro moved all in from the small blind preflop, and James McClain made the all-in call. Their cards:

Salinaro: J 9
McClain: A 7

Board: A 10 8 8 Q

McClain was eliminated in eighth place and Salinaro grew his stack to 1.75 million.

Walter Wright Eliminated in Seventh Place ($97,985)

Mike Ciotola raised to 230,000, and Travis Johnson reraised to 700,000. Walter Wright then moved all in for 1,685,000, and Ciotola folded.

Johnson made the call and turned over pocket fives, and Wright showed A K. The board ran out J 10 9 2 8, and Wright was eliminated.

Brian McInnis Eliminated in Sixth Place ($116,234)

Brian McInnis raised, and Mike Ciotola moved him all in. McInnis called with 8 8, but it failed to hold against Ciotola’s A K when the board came A Q 5 9 Q, busting McInnis in sixth palce.

Craig McConville Eliminated in Fifth Place ($145,721)

Travis Johnson raised to 210,000 and Craig McConville reraised to 600,000. Johnson moved all in and McConville caled, showing pocket jacks.

Johnson showed A 10 and got lucky when the board fell ace-high, giving McConville a fifth-place finish.

Mark Salinaro Eliminated in Fourth Place ($193,343)

Steve Karp completed from the small blind, and Mark Salinaro moved all in. Karp called and showed A K, which was racing against Salinaro’s pocket sevens.

The board came out K Q 8 8 3, and Salinaro was eliminated from the tournament in fourth place.

Mike Ciotola Eliminated in Third Place ($273,385)

Mike Ciotola raised to 325,000 from the small blind, and Travis Johnson moved all in, putting Ciotola’s tournament life at risk.

Ciotola called with K 8 and Johnson had him beat with A 4. The board brought an ace and Ciotola was eliminated.

Travis Johnson Wins Event No. 7 ($666,853) Steve Karp Eliminated in Second Place ($414,116)

With his large chip lead, Travis Johnson was able to make quick work of Steve Karp, winning his first career bracelet and $666,853. On the final hand, Karp limped in on the button, and Johnson put him all in. Karp instantly called with pocket fives and was racing against Johnson’s A Q.

The board came K 10 4 Q J, and Johnson’s Broadway straight took it down. Karp earned $414,116 for his second-place finish.
