Harrah's Entertainment, Inc., the world's biggest gaming company, is about to
get bigger.
The company announced this week it will develop two new casinos in Europe, a Caesars in Spain and a yet-to-be named casino in Slovenia.
The casino in Spain will be located about 120 miles south of Madrid. The preliminary plans include an 850-room luxury hotel, a 50,000-square-foot casino, a 3,000-seat theater, a conference center, a 30,000-square-foot spa, and multiple restaurants and bars.
In Slovenia, Harrah's is teaming up with the Hit Group, a Slovenian company that operates nine casinos there. Together they will build a large-scale casino resort in Nova Gorica, which sits on the border with Italy. The approximate cost of the project is $700 million, which will be split between the two companies. Preliminary plans include an 800- to 1,200-room
hotel, 50,000-square-foot casino that will hold 1,500 slots and 70 tables, 50,000 square feet of convention space, and a 3,000-seat theater.
It has been a busy month for Harrah's. At the beginning of the month, it announced it signed a letter of intent with Baha Mar Resorts, Ltd., and Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide to partner in a joint development to build a 1,000-acre beachfront resort and casino in the Bahamas that will operate under the Caesars brand.
