According to news site Haaretz.com, police have objected to a poker tournament due to take place at the end of this month, which was allowed to happen because the Israel Poker Association successfully petitioned the High Court of Justice to get the go ahead.

The police are declaring that the game attracts criminal elements, whereas the IPA protests that poker is more of a game of skill than luck and is, more importantly, legal.

However, yesterday, the State Prosecutor’s representative, argued that poker is a forbidden game according to the penal code and that the large sums of money involved can cause violent disputes between criminals.
