WSOP -- Jerrod Ankenman Wins Event No. 42Ankenman Takes Home $241,367 and his First Gold Bracelet |
|
Jerrod Ankenman had come close to winning a World Series of Poker bracelet twice. In 2006 he finished in second place in a $3,000 limit hold’em event and took home $150,586 but no bracelet. Last year he finished runner-up once again, this time in the $10,000 limit hold’em world championship. He was awarded $307,380, but he had to watch as Rob Hollink was awarded the gold.
Heading into the final heads-up match of event No. 42 ($2,500 mixed event) at the 2009 WSOP Ankenman was nearly even in chips with Sergey Altbregin, but he wasn’t about to let a third gold bracelet slip through his fingers. Ankenman pushed his edge in limit games to take the lead against Altbregin and then eliminated the Russian in second place ($149,342). Ankenman was awarded $241,367 for the win, but more importantly his first gold bracelet.
