Mohegan Sun in Connecticut has just announced the details of its newest tournament series, the Summer Showdown, which is sure to attract a large number of poker players to the East Coast casino. Over 10 events, Mohegan Sun will award more than $1 million in cash, highlighted by its $2,150 main event (with a $700,000 guaranteed prize pool) on Thursday, July 30.
“As with any tournament, we are extremely excited, but this one seems to be a bit more special as we are guaranteeing a million dollars — the largest prize pool in our history,” said Bruce Dixon, Director of Poker for Mohegan Sun. “Since we opened our poker room last August, each tournament we’ve held has built a wave of momentum in terms of turnout and success and we expect July’s tournament to reach even new proportions.”
The tournament series, which begins July 22, will feature events in no-limit hold’em, limit hold’em, and seven card stud, while also providing unique opportunities in the forms of a bounty tournament and a ladies tournament.
The main event offers a favorable structure, with each player receiving 30,000 in chips. Blind levels will increase every 50 minutes for Day 1, and then slow down to 60-minute intervals for Day 2 and Fay 3.
Weekly satellites for the event will begin July 6 at Mohegan Sun.
