The Asian Poker Tour is set for Aug. 12-23, when planes, trains, and automobiles filled with poker players from far and wide will descend upon the Galaxy Starworld Hotel and Casino in Macau for 12 days of poker-fuelled madness. Now it appears that they will also be joined by producers, directors, cameramen, actors, and so on, as the festival is to be featured in a Chinese language poker movie that is expected to rock Asia.
The movie, provisionally known as “Poker King” is anticipated to be as popular in Asia as Hollywood’s “Rounders” was on the western world. It will be directed by the famous Chan Hing-Kai and Janet Chun, and will see an all-star cast, perhaps including the Tour’s sponsored ambassadors “The Poker Pack”.
Tom Hall, Chief Executive Officer of Asian Logic, owners of the Asian Poker Tour said, “Rounders, starring Matt Damon and Edward Norton, is always highlighted as a key catalyst for the growth of poker in the western world. ‘Poker King’ has the promise to deliver this and potentially much more.
“Gross revenue from poker in Macau is estimated to have risen by 400 percent in 2008 alone and continues to rise, and with this blockbuster movie, the game could become even more popular in a land where baccarat is king. Think of how many people have seen Rounders and at least quadruple it and you can only speculate at the kind of impact ‘Poker King’ could have on the game. We’re delighted to be involved.”
